Bahati Kasongo
Bahati arrived in Pittsburgh, PA in 2017 as a refugee from the Congo via Burundi, where she lived for fifteen years before her refugee resettlement was accepted by the US. Since then, she has been working to improve the future for her and her five year old daughter as a machine operator in Pittsburgh. Bahati received a diplôme secondaire in economics in the Congo and has worked in and managed hair salons in the Congo and Burundi. She speaks Swahili, French, English, and several other central African languages. She began studying English in August of 2018. Bahati participated in the first interview conducted for this project and was instrumental to the project’s success and development in the Pittsburgh African community.
Bahati is a cultural educator and refugee advocate who facilitates community engagement. |
